Glacier front

The lowest, outermost edge of a glacier, where the ice terminates and often melts or calves into water. This boundary is highly dynamic, advancing or retreating in response to changes in ice accumulation and ablation rates. The position of the glacier front is a primary indicator of glacier health and climate change.
