Windward side

The portion of a geographical feature, such as a mountain range or island, that directly faces the prevailing wind. This exposure causes air to ascend, cool adiabatically, and often results in cloud formation and higher precipitation rates. The opposite side, known as the leeward side, experiences descending air and drier conditions.
