Shurgee

A violent, squally wind from the northeast that occurs in the Persian Gulf, particularly during the winter and spring. It is often accompanied by dust storms, thunderstorms, and a rapid drop in temperature, developing suddenly and lasting for a few hours. The shurgee is a distinct phenomenon from the more persistent northwesterly shamal wind that also affects the region.
