Shamal

A persistent, northwesterly wind that blows over Iraq and the Persian Gulf region, particularly during the summer months. It is characterized by its dry, dusty nature and can last for several days, often causing sandstorms. The shamal is driven by the pressure gradient between the Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea.
