Snow eater

A colloquial name for a warm, dry wind that causes rapid melting and sublimation of snowpack, such as a Foehn or Chinook wind. These winds descend from mountains, warming adiabatically as they are compressed, and have very low relative humidity. A strong Chinook wind can cause several inches of snow to disappear in a matter of hours.
