Special observation

A meteorological measurement or set of measurements taken outside of routine operational schedules or standard networks, often in response to specific weather events or research objectives. These observations can involve deploying specialized instruments, increasing the frequency of standard measurements, or targeting particular atmospheric phenomena. Examples include data collected during field campaigns for hurricane research or targeted soundings ahead of severe thunderstorms.
