Spectroheliograph

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009114

An instrument that produces photographic or digital images of the Sun at a single, very narrow band of wavelengths. By isolating the light from a specific spectral line, such as hydrogen-alpha or calcium-K, it allows astronomers and solar physicists to observe features and dynamic events within the Sun's chromosphere. These observations reveal structures like solar flares, filaments, and plages that are invisible in white light.
