Stable profile
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009177
A vertical distribution of atmospheric temperature where the environmental lapse rate is less than the moist adiabatic lapse rate, indicating stable conditions. This profile means that an air parcel lifted adiabatically will become cooler than its surroundings, causing it to sink back down. A stable profile inhibits vertical air movement and convection.
