Standing cloud
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009202
A cloud formation that remains relatively stationary over a geographical location, even in the presence of strong winds. These clouds typically form as air is forced to rise over an obstacle, such as a mountain range, cools to its dew point, and then dissipates as it descends on the lee side. Lenticular clouds are a common type of standing cloud.
