Subtropical front

A semi-permanent, large-scale boundary in the ocean separating warmer, saltier subtropical waters from cooler, fresher subpolar waters. This front is characterized by a strong horizontal gradient in temperature and salinity, influencing ocean circulation and marine ecosystems. In the Southern Ocean, the Subtropical Front is a major circumpolar feature located at approximately 40 degrees south latitude.
