Sun-synchronous satellite
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009394
An artificial satellite placed in a sun-synchronous orbit, allowing it to pass over any given point on Earth's surface at the same local mean solar time each day. This orbital characteristic provides consistent illumination conditions for Earth observation, making it ideal for applications such as meteorology, environmental monitoring, and reconnaissance. Many weather and climate satellites, like those in the NOAA series, operate in this type of orbit.
