Thermal belt
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002780
A zone on a hillside or mountain slope where temperatures are warmer than areas both above and below it, especially during clear, calm nights. This phenomenon occurs due to cold air drainage into valleys, leaving a layer of relatively warmer air higher up. Thermal belts are often favored for agriculture, as they experience fewer damaging frosts.
A zone of high nighttime temperatures (and relatively low humidities) that is often experienced within a narrow altitude range on valley sidewalls, especially evident during clear weather with light winds.
