Thermal precipitator

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009590

An instrument used to collect airborne particulate matter by exploiting the thermophoretic force, which drives particles away from a hot surface towards a colder one. Air is drawn through a narrow channel with a heated wire on one side and a cold surface on the other, causing particles to deposit on the cold surface. This method is effective for collecting very fine aerosols for microscopic analysis.
