Tide-producing force
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009673
The differential gravitational force exerted by celestial bodies, primarily the moon and sun, across the Earth's surface. This force creates bulges of water on the sides of the Earth facing and opposite the celestial body, leading to the rhythmic rise and fall of ocean tides. The moon's influence is approximately twice that of the sun due to its closer proximity.
