Transverse velocity

The component of velocity that is perpendicular to a specified direction or to the main direction of flow. In atmospheric science, this can refer to the velocity component across a streamline or perpendicular to a frontal boundary. It is often used in analyzing atmospheric dynamics, such as cross-frontal circulation or the lateral movement of air parcels.
