Transverse wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009776
A wave in which the oscillations of the medium or field are perpendicular to the direction of energy propagation. Unlike longitudinal waves where oscillations are parallel to the propagation direction, the particles in a transverse wave move up and down as the wave moves forward. Electromagnetic radiation, including visible light and radio waves, is a primary example of a transverse wave in atmospheric science.
