Vertical-current recorder
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010006
An instrument designed to measure the speed and direction of vertical air movements within the atmosphere. These devices are often deployed on research aircraft or tethered balloons to study updrafts and downdrafts in clouds or convective systems. Data from vertical-current recorders provide insights into atmospheric stability and the dynamics of turbulent mixing.
