Vidicon camera
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010021
A type of television camera tube that converts an optical image into an electrical video signal using a photoconductive target. Although largely replaced by solid-state charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras, vidicon cameras were historically used in early weather satellites and ground-based systems for capturing images of clouds and other atmospheric features. Its operation relies on the change in conductivity of the target material when exposed to light.
