Spin-scan cloud camera
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009144
A type of imaging instrument used on early geostationary meteorological satellites to capture images of Earth's cloud cover. It operates by spinning the satellite to provide west-to-east scanning and tilting a mirror to provide north-to-south scanning, building up an image line by line. This method allowed for continuous monitoring of weather patterns from a fixed orbital position.
