Stretched VISSR data
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009324
A processed and retransmitted data stream from a Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer (VISSR) instrument on early geostationary satellites. The raw, high-rate data was received at a central ground station, processed, and then re-broadcast at a much lower data rate, effectively stretching the transmission time. This allowed simpler, less expensive receiving stations to acquire and display the satellite imagery for weather analysis and forecasting.
