Warm conveyor belt

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010080

A coherent stream of warm, moist air that flows poleward and upward within an extratropical cyclone. Originating in the warm sector of the cyclone at low levels, this airstream ascends as it travels, producing extensive cloud cover and precipitation ahead of the cold front. The warm conveyor belt is a primary mechanism for transporting heat and moisture from lower to higher latitudes.
