Wave blocking
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010135
A phenomenon where atmospheric waves, such as Rossby waves, are prevented from propagating further by a region of strong opposing flow or a critical layer. This can lead to the waves breaking or being reflected, influencing weather patterns downstream. Wave blocking often occurs in the upper troposphere.
