Wave period
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003042
The time it takes for two successive crests or troughs of a wave to pass a fixed point. It is the inverse of wave frequency and is a fundamental characteristic used to describe the temporal properties of waves. For ocean waves, periods can range from a few seconds for wind waves to many minutes for tsunamis.
Time, in seconds, between the passage of consecutive wave crests past a fixed point.
