White frost

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010230

A deposit of ice crystals that forms on surfaces when the air temperature falls below freezing and the dew point is also below freezing. Water vapor in the air directly sublimates onto cold surfaces, forming delicate, feathery ice structures. This differs from hoarfrost, which forms under similar conditions but often with more intricate crystal patterns.
