Crystalline frost
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004792
A deposit of ice crystals that forms on surfaces when the temperature of the surface is below freezing and the ambient air is saturated with water vapor. The water vapor directly sublimates onto the cold surface, forming delicate, feathery ice structures. This differs from rime ice, which forms from supercooled water droplets freezing on impact.
