Crystallization

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010454

The process by which a solid forms, where atoms or molecules are highly organized into a structure known as a crystal. In the atmosphere, it describes the phase transition of water from a liquid or vapor state to a solid ice state, forming ice crystals in clouds. This process releases latent heat, which can warm the surrounding air and affect cloud dynamics and precipitation formation.
