Average velocity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000226

The total distance traveled by a seismic wave divided by its total traveltime from the source to a reflector and back to the surface. This is a bulk velocity measurement that accounts for all layers above the reflector. Average velocity is used in time-to-depth conversion for seismic sections.
