Dix formula
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001136
An equation used in seismic processing to calculate interval velocities from root-mean-square (RMS) velocities derived from normal moveout (NMO) analysis. It provides an estimate of the average velocity within a specific layer between two reflection events. The formula assumes horizontal layers and small offsets, and it is widely applied in velocity analysis for time-to-depth conversion.
