Bit box

A sturdy steel container used to transport and store drill bits, protecting the cutting structure and threads from knocks between the supplier, the rig floor and the drill string. Used and spare bits are kept in it on the rig between runs. It differs from a bit breaker, the plate that holds a bit in the rotary table during make-up.
