Diagenetic

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001051

Relating to the physical, chemical, and biological alterations that sediments undergo after deposition and during lithification, but prior to metamorphism. These changes affect the texture, mineralogy, and pore structure of sedimentary rocks. Diagenetic processes can create or destroy porosity and permeability, directly impacting the economic viability of a hydrocarbon reservoir.
