Connate water

Water trapped in the pore spaces of sedimentary rocks at the time of their deposition, which has remained in place since burial. This water is often highly saline and can differ significantly in chemical composition from modern seawater due to diagenetic processes. It is also known as fossil water and is distinct from meteoric water or formation water that has migrated into the rock later.
