Fishbone wells
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001432
A type of multilateral well design featuring a central horizontal wellbore with multiple smaller, shorter horizontal laterals branching off it, resembling a fish skeleton. This configuration maximizes reservoir contact in thin or compartmentalized heavy oil reservoirs. Fishbone wells are primarily used for cold production of viscous crude, such as in the Orinoco Belt.
