Horizontal drilling
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001853
A drilling technique where the wellbore deviates from the vertical and extends horizontally within a reservoir rock formation. This method maximizes the exposure of the wellbore to the pay zone, increasing the drainage area and hydrocarbon recovery. It is commonly used in unconventional plays like shale gas and tight oil to access thinly bedded or widespread reservoirs.
