An acronym for extended reach drilling, a technique used to drill wells with a horizontal displacement significantly greater than their vertical depth. This method allows access to reservoirs located far from the drilling rig, often under environmentally sensitive areas or offshore platforms. ERD wells can have horizontal sections exceeding 10 kilometers.
