Deviated drilling
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001044
The practice of drilling a wellbore at an angle from the vertical, allowing access to hydrocarbon reservoirs that are not directly beneath the drilling rig. This technique involves steering the drill bit using downhole motors and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) tools to achieve a specific trajectory. Deviated wells can range from a few degrees off vertical to horizontal sections extending thousands of feet.
