Directional well

A wellbore drilled at an angle from the vertical to reach a target reservoir that is not directly beneath the drilling rig. This technique allows access to hydrocarbon accumulations under difficult-to-reach locations, such as beneath urban areas, environmentally sensitive zones, or offshore platforms. The well path can be controlled to follow a specific trajectory, including horizontal sections.
