Heavyweight drillpipe

A type of drillpipe with thicker walls and longer tool joints than standard drillpipe, providing increased stiffness and weight. It is placed in the transition zone between the drill collars and the lighter drillpipe to provide additional weight on bit and to reduce fatigue failures. Heavyweight drillpipe has an intermediate bending stiffness between drill collars and standard drillpipe.
