Heavy pipe
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001804
A condition, in snubbing and other live-well work, in which the weight of the string in the hole is greater than the upward force that wellbore pressure exerts on its cross-section, so the pipe tends to run in under its own weight. The unit must then hold the string back. It is the opposite of light pipe, and the change from one condition to the other occurs at the balance point.
