Induced particle plugging
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001967
A technique for conformance control in which solid particles are injected into a reservoir to selectively block off high-permeability zones or fractures. These particles, which may be polymers, silicates, or other materials, are transported by an injected fluid and become lodged in pore throats, diverting subsequent injection fluids into less-swept, lower-permeability areas of the reservoir. The particle size distribution is designed to match the pore throat sizes of the target thief zones.
