Palynology
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002688
The study of microscopic organic particles, such as pollen, spores, dinoflagellates, and other palynomorphs, preserved in sedimentary rocks. Palynological analysis of well cuttings and cores provides biostratigraphic dating, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and thermal maturity assessment of source rocks. This technique is widely applied in petroleum exploration to correlate strata and evaluate hydrocarbon potential.
