Polarity standard
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002842
A convention or reference used to define the expected seismic waveform response for a specific geological interface. This standard establishes whether an increase in acoustic impedance at a boundary should result in a positive or negative amplitude on the seismic trace. The SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) has established widely accepted polarity standards for seismic data interpretation.
