Positive displacement motor
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002878
A downhole motor that converts the hydraulic energy of drilling fluid into mechanical energy to rotate the drill bit without rotating the entire drill string. The fluid flows through a helical rotor and stator assembly, causing the rotor to turn. This motor is commonly used in directional drilling operations to steer the wellbore along a planned trajectory.
