Three-dimensional (3D) seismic data

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003824

A set of seismic reflection data acquired over a surface area, providing a volumetric image of the subsurface rather than a single 2D line. The acquisition involves a dense grid of sources and receivers, and the processed data allows geophysicists to interpret geological structures and stratigraphy in three dimensions. A 3D seismic survey is defined by its bin size, which is the area on the surface corresponding to a single common midpoint.
