Three-component (3C) seismic data
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003823
Seismic data recorded by receivers that measure ground motion in three orthogonal directions: one vertical and two horizontal. This allows for the capture of both compressional (P-waves) and shear (S-waves) wave energy, providing a more complete understanding of subsurface rock properties. The analysis of 3C data can reveal anisotropic rock characteristics and fluid content that are not discernible from conventional P-wave data alone.
