Multicomponent seismic data

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002473

Seismic data recorded by receivers capable of detecting ground motion in multiple directions, typically three orthogonal components (one vertical and two horizontal). This allows for the recording of both compressional (P) waves and shear (S) waves. Multicomponent data provides additional information about rock properties, such as fluid content and fracture orientation, which is not available from conventional single-component P-wave data.
