Top drive

A power swivel and motor assembly suspended from the derrick that rotates the drill string from the top, rather than from the rig floor. It allows for continuous drilling of multiple pipe stands and enables reaming while tripping out of the hole. This device is a standard feature on modern drilling rigs, providing rotational torque up to 100,000 foot-pounds.
