A large, complex machine assembly used to drill wells into the earth for oil, gas, or water. It includes the derrick, drawworks, power system, and mud system, all designed to hoist, rotate, and circulate drilling fluids. Rigs are classified by their mobility, such as land rigs, offshore platforms, or jack-up rigs.
