Submersible drilling rig

A type of mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) with a barge-like hull and support columns that rests on the seabed for drilling operations. To move, the hull is deballasted to float; on location, its compartments are flooded until the rig submerges and sits on the bottom. These rigs are restricted to shallow water depths, typically less than 100 feet.
