Universal Transverse Mercator grid (UTM)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003992

A global coordinate system that divides the Earth's surface into 60 zones, each 6 degrees of longitude wide, for precise mapping. Within each zone, coordinates are expressed as eastings and northings, measured in meters from a central meridian and the equator, respectively. UTM is widely used in oil and gas exploration and production for accurate location of wells, seismic surveys, and infrastructure.
