Volumetric cross section
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004063
The photoelectric absorption cross section of a formation per unit volume, symbol U, found as the photoelectric factor multiplied by the electron density. It is expressed in barns per cubic centimeter and adds linearly by volume across the minerals and fluids in a rock, so it is used in lithology and porosity analysis, for example through the apparent matrix value Umaa.
